TWO rugby league teams from Astley High School in Seaton Delaval made it to the north east finals of the Girls Carnegie Champion Schools.

The event, organised by North East Rugby League, took place at Sunnydale Leisure Centre in Shildon, County Durham.

The Year 9 team from Astley were up against Framwellgate Moor, County Durham, in the Year 9 final but were on the wrong end of a 22-10 defeat.

However, the girls from Year 10 took home the trophy after beating Parkside, from County Durham, 26-4 in the final.

John Gray, RFL regional development officer for the north east, said: “The regional finals were a great success and a lot of credit has to go to the players and teachers who have bought in completely to our competition.

“Congratulations must go to the runners up as well as the winners as all games were played in a great spirit and all of the girls really enjoyed the day.”
