Wansbeck Gymnastics and Trampolining Club are celebrating their first season of trampolining at the club in style with Chris Bell achieving second place at the national NDP finals in Telford.

Back in March, fresh from competing in the National Schools’ competition in Birmingham where he came fifth in the Intermediate section, Wansbeck bouncer Bell qualified for the regional NDP finals in Peterborough.

He competed with the rest of the North team in Peterborough and after two fantastic routines he won NDP 13+ by two whole marks.

Then at the national finals he held his nerve and took the lead after the first round only to be pipped to the title in the second round.

Both coach and gymnast were pleased with the result.

Coach Liz Naylor praised Bell for a fantastic season.

“He has done the club, school and region proud this year and is a fantastic role model for the younger gymnasts at the club.

“He has made our first competitive year a very good one.”

Alongside his silver, Wansbeck’s other trampolinists celebrated success in the regional graded qualifier with five first places, two seconds and two thirds along with a team gold.

Wansbeck Gymnastics and Trampolining Club train at Ashington Leisure Centre and are looking forward to making the move to the new sports centre in the autumn.
