TWO students at Ashington Shotokan Karate Club have been awarded their black belts.

Eleven-year-old Niamh Duddridge and Maya Burns, 12, passed at their first attempt.

Both have been with the club for more than five years and worked through the grading system.

They have trained hard and their efforts and attitude have been exemplary, both showing courtesy and respect to their instructors and other club members.

They are both members of the competition squad for Kata and Kumite.

Anyone interested in joining the club should contact Sensei Jill Kelly on (01670) 505843 or 07930 324556 or e-mail jillfkelly@googlemail.com

Club training takes place at 10.30am on Saturdays at Ashington YMCA and 6.30pm on Thursday evenings in Mowbray First School.
