A Pegswood-born amateur boxer who has turned professional is set to get his big chance when he makes his debut next month.

Danny Wall will be under the watchful eye of Sunderland promoter Tommy Conroy in the pro bout.

And Wall has paid tribute to his former coach Alan Buller, of Ashington Boxing Club, ahead of the fight.

“I have been given the chance of a lifetime and I’m looking forward to the occasion,” he said.

“I have a lot to thank Alan for because he trained me from the first time I put a pair of gloves on at the age of 11.”

Buller said: “We wish Danny all the luck.”

Meanwhile Ashington BC will hold their end of season presentation on Tuesday, June 23, with a guest appearance from Jeff Saunders, a professional boxer from South Durham.
