NEWBIGGIN Boxing Club has enjoyed some success in the past two weeks.
Kieran Robertson reached the Junior ABA final in his first season and only his seventh fight. He was very unlucky to lose a countback decision to Repton’s James Branch, three times national champion and twice three nation champion.
Robertson will get a shot at an England competition, this has been confirmed.
Kai Hume, Newbiggin’s National Schoolboy Champion, attended his first England squad training ahead of his three nations tournament in Wales on July 5 and 6.
Colin Holmes made his return to the ring last week with a close defeat at Sunderland, followed by a convincing win over Bilton Hall’s K. Pilkington.
Richy Stafford was back on form at Birtley with a comfortable victory over David King. Stafford, 17, was nine years younger than his opponent.
Tomorrow (Friday) will be Newbiggin’s final show of the season.
Twelve of Newbiggin’s boxers will be out to gain victories over their opponents in what promises to be the best show in the north east this year. Newbiggin Sports Centre will be the venue and doors open at 7pm.
