MORE than 100 children took part in a sports competition to highlight the work of School Sports Partnerships in the county.
A total of 167 young athletes from eight schools representing all six partnerships competed for the County Champions title at the 2011 Under 11 Sportshall Athletics County Final.
On the track and in the field, the competition was keenly fought with some close races and excellent performances.
Support for athletes was noisy and sportsmanlike throughout the two hours of intense competition.
The event was organised by the Northumberland Competition Managers and delivered with Sportshall Associates with officiating by young leaders from King Edward VI School in Morpeth and coaches from Blyth and Alnwick athletics clubs.
Schools taking part were Jackie Milburn Campus, Bedlington Junior High, Whytrig Middle, Chantry Middle, Lindisfarne Middle, Seahouses Middle, Ovingham Middle and last year’s champions Amble Middle.
The winners, with 294 points, were Lindisfarne Middle School, from Alnwick, while joint second, with 288 points, were Amble Middle and Ovingham Middle.
