THE BVPA sponsored Goschen St Garage & Union Private Hire pool league saw some shock results and an amazing comeback this week.
With only two weeks left there was a dramatic twist in the Superleague title race when the fifth placed Comrades A shocked leaders Sports A with a 7-5 victory.
With the game tied at 5-5, Comrades won both the scotch doubles to seal the victory, with the undoubted star of the night ex-CIU legend Davy Patterson who rolled back the years to win both his singles and doubles.
BVPA league secretary Gary Wilson exemplified the sporting spirit, calling a foul on himself to give his opponent two shots and ball in hand on the black.
Second placed Bedlington Station started the week 23 points adrift of Sports A but took full advantage by winning their re-arranged game with the Seahorse on Tuesday 9-3 and then completed a ten-point victory over the Brockwell Seam on Thursday to reduce the gap to seven points then ensure the league would go to the wire.
The Percy Arms got back to winning ways with an emphatic 11-1 win over Newsham Side Club.
After their midweek loss the Seahorse bounced back with an impressive 8-4 win over Cramlington Village A, the victory strengthening their hold on sixth place.
The last two games of the week both went to sudden death play-offs, which show how competitve and close a lot of the teams are.
Will Cowling won the play-off frame for Sports B against the fourth placed Comrades B.
The last and most exciting game of the night saw the Annitsford Irish come back from 6-1 down against the Cramlington Village B. The amazing comeback was sealed with Jason Ritson winning the play-off frame to record the second 7-6 win of the night.
