DANIEL Spicer showed his growing talent by taking the novice’s trophy at a go kart meeting in Cumbria.
The youngster, who has passed his Association of Racing Kart School test and acquired his MSA novice race licence, competes for the SB Racing Team.
At the team’s most recent race meeting, Daniel was up against two other novices, meaning he had the additional incentive of knowing there was a trophy up for grabs.
With ten competitors in total, the three novices needed to start all three heats at the back of the grid, but their results would be combined to give a definitive grid position for the final.
With Daniel full of confidence in the wet and the team happy with the kart was set up, he took advantage of other drivers losing control in the wet to finish in sixth.
In heat two Daniel again got an excellent start and climbed to sixth.
At the start of heat three, Daniel did not get a clear start but found himself gaining a couple of places up to seventh, at which point he had to drive very defensively to maintain his position until the chequered flag.
These excellent combined heat results earned him sixth place on the grid for the final, with the other two novices in ninth and tenth.
In the final Daniel showed some aggressive driving to gain some places and was up to fourth in the first lap, although he did receive a warning flag.
He eventually found himself in eighth but he stayed focused and fought back to sixth to take the chequered flag as first novice.
