A member of Ashington Karate Club has won a runners-up medal while representing England.
Niamh Duddridge was in the KUGB England team at the annual ESKA European Shotokan Karate-Do Association Championships in Chalkida, Greece.
She competed in the Cadet Female Individual and Team Kumite events.
Unfortunately Duddridge was knocked out in her first round of the individual event by an experienced Russian opponent.
But she more than made up for it in the team event. In the first round England came up against Russia, where Duddridge faced the same competitor who put her out in the individuals, but this time she was victorious.
The team won through to the next round where they came up against Wales, and once again they won, giving the girls a place in the final.
In the final they lost out to Poland, leaving the team as the European runners-up.
For the second year in a row local businessmen Dave Lyall and David Alsop from Window-Tech have sponsored the young competitor.
Mr Lyall said: “It is a pleasure to be able to give back and help Niamh. As a local company we felt we had to help this talented young person in representing her country. Well done Niamh and all of the England squad.
A spokesperson for Ashington Karate Club said it was “a fantastic achievement and the whole of Ashington Karate Club is proud of Niamh”.
The Ashington club embraces all age ranges and abilities with families training together. Everyone is welcome to the classes, and for more information go to ashingtonshotokankarate.co.uk or visit their Facebook page.
