BLYTH Running Club recently held the fifth race in their Winter Series and had a good turnout of more than 60 runners on a cool, misty, damp night.
First away, and holding on to her lead all the way to win by 23 seconds was Ewa Johnson, improving her season’s best by over a minute in the process.
But the second and third placed positions changed hands several times until Terry McCabe pulled away to take second position by three seconds in front of Dave Roberts.
The prize of fastest finisher went to Lee Cuthbertson with a time of 13:44, closely followed by Joe Race (13:47) and Jake Jansen (13:48), Peter Brown ran a vets record of 14:14, finally removing Rob Halls’ mark from five years ago; fastest female was 15-year-old Charlie Hedley with 15:19, just four seconds off the female record.
It was a good night for season’s bests, with 28 being recorded.
The junior section hold their main training on a Monday, with regular indoor mini-athletics session on Tuesdays from 5pm to 6pm at Bede Academy.
