Blyth RFC Under-8s entered the first annual Carlisle Rugby Festival and came home with the trophy.
They came up against other teams from the north east and Cumbria, and despite for most of the team this being their first season, they played with passion, pace and energy.
They competed hard and fair but with a smile on their face and the winner was awarded based on ‘Fair Play’ and upholding the values of rugby union – team work, sportsmanship, discipline, respect and enjoyment – and the organisers awarded the silverware and fair play title to Blyth.
The stand out performances was the leadership and captaincy of Niall Rumney in ensuring all team members were involved, and the partnership between Ethan Irving and Lewis Shepherd in carving up opposing teams with speed and an eye for gaps in defence.
For anybody that would like to join the club, they train every Sunday 10.30am to noon, at Blyth RFC, Plessey Road. All ages and abilities welcome, boys and girls.
