Gemma wins silver in Commonwealth powerlifting championship event

A member of Parkhead Powersports Club in Ashington has won a medal in a major event.

Gemma Robinson won silver at the Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships held in Vancouver, Canada.

Robinson attends the Parkhead club, which operates within the Hirst Welfare Centre, once a week for specialist training.

In a very strong group she came away with a silver in the discipline of deadlift.

She is one of a group of five special Olympic athletes who attend Parkhead and who have all taken to the sport with dedication and enthusiasm.
