Gillespie maintains 100 per cent record in Autumn Relays

In 1986, Blyth Running Club organised their first Autumn Relays and Steve Gillespie has managed to run in every one of them.

On a miserable night in the Kitty Brewster Industrial Estate, the blustery wind and frequent showers did not appear to dampen the spirits of the record number of 18 full teams who took part in this year’s event.

The team of Helen Bruce, Craig Giles and Heather Christopher were long time leaders but the team of Louise Rawlinson, Emma James and Chris Sheffer managed to overtake them with Chris making up a deficit of more than two minutes on the third leg.

Jake Jansen was the fastest on the night with 12:46, and Leanne Herron was the quickest lady in a new female course record time of 14:26, beating her own record from 2009 by seven seconds.

On Sunday, October 20, the Club will be holding their annual handicap race over a distance of 6.5 miles, details on the club website.

The first race of the popular Winter Series will be on Wednesday, November 20, further details are on the website and noticeboard at Blyth Sports Centre.

The 53rd running of the Blyth Sands race will take place on Sunday, December 2.

Runners receive handicaps according to age/sex.
