Golf to go rock ‘n’ roll at Newbiggin

Newbiggin Golf Club are staging a Golf Rocks Day on Saturday, September 6, following hard on the heels of hosting what is thought to be their first ever Northern Counties County match last weekend when Northumberland met Yorkshire.

Billy Bennett, a committee member at the club, said: “The idea for the Golf Rocks Day came from former Durham and England cricketer Stephen Harmison.

“It will be run with teams of four and the two best scores will count.

“There are people playing from various towns but the emphasis is very much centred around it being a fun day followed later by live music.

“This is the first Golf Rocks Day event and hopefully if it is a success, we would be looking to stage it again next year.”

Newbiggin is a par 72 course with Mark Penny holding the record of 62.

The cost for visitors on Saturday will be £15 per head, ie £60 per team, but anyone who wishes to enter or who requires any further information should contact Billy Bennett via Newbiggin Golf Club on (01670) 817344.
