PUPILS at a south east Northumberland school are celebrating after winning a county-wide basketball competition.

Students from Bedlingtonshire Community High School came top in the Northumberland Under-16 Basketball Championship, and have now been crowned champions of the Northumberland Central Venue League (NCVL).

The competition was organised by Northumberland County County in conjunction with the Newcastle Eagles Development Foundation, who have been running a centralised venue league for the schools within the county.

The team is now waiting to hear who they will play in the next stage of the competition from England Basketball.

Head of PE at the school, Steven Gravell, said: “The league provides a fantastic opportunity to compete against other school teams in the area.

“We are very fortunate to have such a talented group of students representing us.”
