More than 300 children from the Blyth and Bedlington School Sport Programme took part in their annual athletics event at Monkton Stadium in Jarrow.

Ten schools took part in the event, which started with an opening ceremony with all competitors parading around the track displaying their school banners.

A total of 35 sport leaders assisted at the event, helping in a variety of roles including time keeping, measuring, recording results and marshalling the children to their events.

Events were based on the traditional athletics events of running, jumping and throwing, with the exciting grand finale being the relay races.

At the end of a great day the champions in both competitions were Meadowdale Academy. The Year 6 champions will go on to represent their School Sport Programme area at the School Games to be held in Hexham at the end of June.

The other schools who took part were Guide Post Middle, St Wilfrids Primary, Bede South, Newsham Primary, Croftway Primary, Morpeth Road Primary, Horton Grange Primary, New Delaval Primary and Cambois Primary.
