Hundreds of boats take part in Northern Rowing season opener on Wansbeck

The Northern Rowing LDS (long distance sculling) / SBH (small boat heads) season got of to a great start on a sun drenched day at Cambois Rowing Club on the river Wansbeck.

With 120 boats racing in the morning and 100 in the afternoon comprising quads, double and single scull, with competitors racing in 3350m time trial, the racing was divided into various categories based on age groups for junior J13 to J18 and ability novice to elite for senior and masters.

The junior sculler dominated the day with a number recording overall fastest time.

Male LDS fastest quad 4x J18 St Leonards School (Liddle) in both senior and junior competition, senior double 2x ElI Sunderland City RC (McGurk), junior double 2x J17 Cambois RC (Bickerdike/Bickerdike), single 1x J16 Chester-le-Street RC (Adamson) in both the senior and junior competition.

Female LDS fastest senior quad 4x WMasD Durham ARC (McCarthy), junior quad 4x: WJ18 Cambois RC (Furness), double 2x WJ15 Cambois RC (Teagle/Furness) in both the senior and junior competition, single 1x WJ17 Chester-le-Street (Larsen) in both the senior and junior competition.

Male SBH fastest male quad 4x J18 St Leonards School (Hare) in both the senior and junior competition, senior 2x IM3 Durham School, single 1x J18 St Leonards School (Rushforth) in both the senior and junior competition.

Female SBH fastest senior quad 4x WIM2 Talkin Tarn (Nugent), junior quad 4x WJ17 Queen Eliizabeth High School Hexham (Speed), senior 2x WIM2 Sunderland City (Taylor), junior 2x WJ16 Hexham (Gledson/Cohen), single 1x WELI Chester-le-Street (Larsen), junior single 1x WJ17 Chester-le-Street (Forster).

In addition to the overall winners, Cambois RC also had individual category winners in the LDS male masters MasG 2x (Wood), junior J15 1x (Fairle), SBH female junior WJ15 1x (Furness).
