Ashington boxer Josh Johnstone’s latest bout was at the Washington Top Club against Aidan Whiting of Toothill ABC.
Although Whiting had both height and a reach advantage, this did not deter Johnstone, who was like a terrier in not allowing his opponent to settle.
Johnstone took command from the first bell with some good combinations of head and body shots.
Boxing clever it was much the same in the second, then in the third Whiting tried to close the deficit.
The last round turned out to be a brutal toe to toe battle but Johnstone picked up the win on a split decision.
Head coach Alan Buller said: “This bout was originally just about to start at the Dolphin Centre in Darlington but the show was abandoned due to a referee collapsing and we are pleased to hear he has made a sound recovery.
“Josh has boxed 11 bouts since January 20, winning seven of them, and he is an inspiration to all others in the Ashington gym.”
