TWO members of Ashington Karate Club have been selected for the KUGB England squad.

Kyle Duddridge has been picked for the junior kumite (fighting) squad and Dylan Gibson was re-selected to the kata squad.

Instructor Sensei Jill Kelly said: “We are delighted Kyle Duddridge and Dylan Gibson were invited onto the KUGB national squad.

“It is good for our club that we have representation on both the kumite and kata squads.

“This means lots of hard training for them both, but the benefits of training with the squads will soon become evident as they mix with the best in the country and train with students they don’t meet every week in their own club.”

The pair also both passed their 2nd Dan black belt grading in October at Alnwick, while Gemma Gibson, passed her 1st Dan.

All three passed on their first attempt, which does not happen often, as the pass rate is normally only 25 per cent.

Ashington Karate Club train on Saturdays at 10am at the Ashington YMCA.
