IT was another successful day for the Kata and Kumite squad from Ashington Karate Club at the 2011 KUGB Youth Championships.

Every competitor gave 100 per cent on the day and were a credit to club as they won several trophies and medals.

In the children’s team Kata, the Ashington ‘A’ team, of Kyle Duddridge, Alex Ralph and Dylan Gibson took first place.

In the boys’ Kata, novice to 4th Kyu, Louie Cummings was second, while in the girls’ Kata, novice to 4th Kyu, Abby Robinson was third.

In the girls’ Kata Brown Belt, Niamh Duddridge was second, Maya Burns third and Gemma Gibson fourth.

In the girls’ Kumite, ten to 11 years, May Burns took third place.

Other competitors on the day were Phillip Campbell, Rebecca Bradburn, Caitlin Birdsey, Dan Lumb, Dan Smart and Sarah Clow

The club trains on a Saturday at Ashington YMCA from 10am until 11.30am, and at Mowbray First School on a Thursday evening, with junior and senior classes available.
