Karate club successful in competitions

MEMBERS of Ashington Shotokan Karate Club competed in the annual Seahouses Karate Championships and came away with a number of medals.

The competition is now in its 24th year and Ashington, as well as individual successes, finished as the second best overall club with 73 points.

Meanwhile, it was well done to the Kata and Kumite squad who had some successful performances at recent competitions.

The club enjoyed success in the 3rd Sunderland Karate Championships, the Youths Championships and Shotokan Cup at Chesterfield and the Northern Regions Championship in Sunderland.

And it is congratulations to Gemma Gibson for gaining her black belt 1st Dan and Kyle Duddridge and Dylan Gibson for gaining their black belt 2nd Dan.
