A YOUNG gymnast from Blyth is currently representing her country at a world event.
Laura Logan is part of Team GB taking part at the World Gymnaestrada 2011 in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The 13-year-old is among more than 20,000 particpants from every continent at the event, which concludes this weekend.
Laura travelled to London last Saturday with head coach Michael Archbold, three other coaches and 28 team members ahead of the flight from Heathrow to Geneva.
Laura is a member of City of Newcastle team gymnastics, which is based at the Benfield Centre for Sporting Excellence.
Her parents David and Kerry are overjoyed at their daughter’s success.
They said: “We are very proud of Laura’s achievements, and it is a great honour to see her represent Great Britain as part of a large scale sporting event.”
Kerry and David also thanked a number of people and organisations who made donations to help towards the cost of the trip, including Joe Frazer, from Blyth; Iain Singer, from Ashington; Wallsend-based Wellstream Ltd and Blyth Rotary Club.
