ASHINGTON-based powerlifter Brian Lee returned from Pilsen in the Czech Republic with a silver medal following the recent European Masters 2 championships.
The competition saw Lee claim the medal in the 120kg category with a dead lift of 285kg, a 205.5kg bench press and a 260kg squat for a total score of 750.5kg.
He also helped Great Britain to a strong fourth position finish out of 16 competing teams.
Lee trains at the Hirst Welfare Centre in Ashington and is part of a strong team of junior and senior weightlifters and powerlifters, many of whom compete in European and world championships.
“The silver medal is just rewards to all of the hard training and work that Brian puts in week after week in the gym,” said Rob Story, health and fitness development manager at the Hirst Welfare.
“Brian represents both the Hirst Welfare Centre and Parkhead Powerlifting Club in many regional and European competitions and he is a credit not only to these clubs but also the town of Ashington.”
