MORPETH RFC Under-14’s unbeaten start to the season came crashing down around their bootlaces as they received a lesson in playing hard rugby from visitors Percy Park.

There was little to commend in the Mitford Road youngsters’ performance, losing 64-12 to a well organised, attacking and determined Park team.

Morpeth never really got out of the starting blocks and were on the back foot for most of the match as their opponents ran in ten tries.

Basic errors and poor tackling were signature marks of an abject Morpeth performance that is probably best forgotten as the team look ahead to Novocastrians away on Sunday.

The only highlight for Morpeth came late in the game when centre Cormac Lunn weaved his way over from a rare break into the opposition 22-metre area.

This was followed in the dying moments when Graham Milne crashed over following a late surge from the Morpeth forwards.

Fly-half Sam Eyres kicked one conversion for the home side.
