MORPETH RFC Under-14s displayed great determination and competitiveness as they put in their best performance so far this season to secure an impressive 43-14 home win over Tynedale on Sunday.
The Mitford Road youngsters controlled the match from the kick-off with their strong back-row of Benedict Gosling, Lewis Nicholson and Ewan Kirk particularly dominant throughout the match.
A charged down clearance kick on the Tynedale 25-metre line followed by a chase saw centre Josh White score a great try within the first five minutes.
Nicholson quickly added a second before scrum-half Will Allen took full advantage of an opportunistic bounce back off the upright to wrap up the match for Morpeth at the end of the first half.
Further tries from Gosling, Allen and White kept the score line ticking over in the final 20 minutes before another storming run from the consistently impressive second row Joe Turnbull – who is on course to become the season’s top scorer at this rate – cemented Morpeth’s fourth straight win.
There was consolation for Tynedale with two late tries and two conversions while Morpeth fly-half Sam Eyres claimed four conversions.
