An entertaining game saw Morpeth RFC Under-15s banish the disappointment of being knocked out of the Northumberland Cup by beating local rivals Ponteland 40-27.
In a see–saw, enthralling battle at Ponteland, Morpeth took advantage of the blustery conditions to dominate most of the match despite going behind to an early try.
A brace of tries from scrum-half Will Allen was the highlight of a performance which although good in parts still saw the Morpeth youngsters suffering from some poor tackling and lack of physicality.
Further tries from flying winger George Devereux-Tinley and prop Sam Fieldsen kept the scoreboard ticking over in the visitors’ favour, but a lack of concentration and indiscipline from Morpeth saw them slacken-off in the final phases to concede some sloppy tries from a spirited Pont side.
Conversions from Jake Stephenson (2) and Sam Eyres (3) added to the Morpeth scoreboard.
