A New Delaval Bowling Club pairing have won this year’s Peter Grenfell Open at Hirst Park Bowling Club.

The competition, now in its sixth year, attracts up to 30 pairs from various clubs and this year included entrants from Sunderland and Durham. Many competing had only just returned from the national finals held at Skegness.

The standard of bowling was excellent and as the competition reached the final stages it was still hard to predict a winner.

The final was played between New Delaval’s father and son pairing of Stephen and Aaron Robson against Sunderland pair Jason Britton and Frank Froud, with the New Delaval duo winning comfortably.

Dominic Appleby, branch manager for Peter Grenfell, said: “We are very proud to sponsor Hirst Park and to be involved with this event.

“As part of the local community this is an excellent way to meet with people and share in the passion they have for the sport.”
