MEMBERS of Newbiggin Boxing Club are preparing for their first fight of 2012 this week.
Tomorrow (Friday), Jake Thompson will be at the Easington boxing tournament.
And then on Friday, January 20, the club travels to Consett where Keiran Robertson and Ben Young will be in action.
Preparations are also full steam ahead for their Schoolboy Championship hopefuls.
The preliminary round for the Tyne Tees and Wear area takes place on Saturday, January 21, at the Rainton Meadows Arena.
Newbiggin have entered five boxers and all are expected to do well.
In the minors class, they have Billy Sankey at 32kg and Joe Tyers at 38kg. In class 1 they have last year’s minors national champion Kai Hume at 52kg.
In class 2 they have Ben Rees at 52kg, who is currently unbeaten with five wins out of five including two stoppages. In class 3 they have Brandon Singer at 52kg, who is also unbeaten with four wins out of four including two stoppages.
Southpaw light middleweight Lewis Scott is now in preparation for the Senior ABA championships on March 3 at Newbiggin Sports Centre.
Newbiggin are hosting the National Senior semi finals and are hoping to get it televised.
Last year’s National semi finalist, Jimmy Tyers is back in the gym preparing to start his training camp for the Junior ABA championships on April 4, again at Newbiggin.
