Newbiggin boxers unlucky in bid for national titles

Have your say

Newbiggin Boxing Club’s Michael Stewart and Joe Tyers were unlucky in their quest to win the National Schoolboy Championships for 2014.

Stewart took on last year’s champion Henry Turner, of the well known London club Repton.

After three very competitive rounds, he lost a points decision.

Tyers took on another Repton boxer, Jamal Khan, also last year’s champion.

After a knock down and a point off Khan in the third, Tyers was still denied the title.

Newbiggin are still very proud of all six boxers who entered this year’s schoolboy championships and even more so the two lads that reached a national final.

The club would also like to thank Mick and Stacey Fenwick, who have kindly donated a large quantity of quality boxing equipment to the club.
