The county’s only American football team will play their first official game next month.
Northumberland Lightning will make the trip to Lancashire to take on the Burnley Tornadoes on Saturday, July 12.
The club, formed 18 months ago, has gone from strength to strength but is still looking for potential players, coaches and helpers ahead of the second half of the year, with games beginning to be scheduled thick and fast.
A spokesman for the organisation said Lightning has positions that cater for every body size – whether a 280lb offensive lineman or a 160lb defensive back, they want to hear from those interested.
Training takes place on Sundays from 9am to 1pm at Ashington Rugby Club.
And all that is initially required are football boots, a gum shield and lots of water.
The club has already competed in unofficial scrimmages with the Durham University Saints and the Walney Terriers, and they have a roster of 95 per cent rookies who have never played the sport before.
Anyone interested in joining the club can email email@example.com or contact them through Twitter @North_Lightning and Facebook at Northumberland Lightning American Football.
