Olympic coach to give tips to local athletes

AN OLYMPIC coach is to pass on tips and advice to up-and-coming athletes and coaches.

The McCain Northumberland Athletics Network have organised an evening, with Peter Stanley – who coached Jonathan Edwards to Olympic gold – and officials Bill and Christine Courtney on the bill.

Stanley is one of the best athletics jumps coach in England. He guided triple jumper Jonathan Edwards to the Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth titles and a world record.

Bill and Christine are well known to most of the athletes in the region as two of the leading starter/marksman.

They will also be officiating at the London 21012 Olympics.

They will give a talk on their experiences on officiating at the Commonwealth Games, World Championships and the famous Blaydon Race

The event will be at Concordia Sports Centre, Cramlington, on Friday, May 25, at 6.45pm. Entry is free.
