Two rugby league players who came through the youth system at Cramlington Rockets have been selected to play for the England Regional Academies side.
Lewis Davey and Lewis Thompson were picked to take on Australia Schoolboys, their U19s side, in a match at Workington’s Derwent Park.
The news of their selection topped off an exciting month especially for Lewis Davey, who has recently signed professional terms with Championship 1 team, Gateshead Thunder.
“It is amazing to see our lads pull on an England shirt,” said club president, Steve Beaty.
“They both fully deserve their chance, having worked hard to get to where they are as part of the north east’s development pathway.
“As young men, they are a great example of what can be achieved to our younger members and the whole club couldn’t be prouder.”
The game last Wednesday comprised players from Cumbria, the north east and the Midlands as part of the Australian Schoolboys’ seven game tour of England and France.
Despite losing a tough game, Lewis Davey was selected as Australia’s opposition man of the match.
