NEWBIGGIN Boxing Club had four members in the recent Tyne Tees Wear Schoolboy Championship finals at Rainton Meadows Arena.
They had Kai Hume, Billy Sankey and Joe Tyers in the final with Ben Rees getting a walkover to the quarter-final.
After good performances, Sankey lost a points decision to Birtley’s Jacob Dickinson and Tyers lost to M Stewart, of Empire.
Performance of the day was Kai Hume against Middlesbrough’s Liam Lillystone.
Hume was 13-0 up going into the last round. As the round started, Hume overpowered Lillystone and forced the stoppage. The score was 22-1 when it was stopped.
Rees and Hume will now box in the national quarter-finals on Sunday, February 12, in Manchester.
Last week saw Johnny Arkle make his debut at the Holiday Inn, Seaton Burn.
He took on Ryton’s Thomas Burn. After three steady rounds, Arkle was unlucky to drop a close points decision.
This week, Newbiggin’s Charlie Burt is in action at Sunderland against Lumley’s Sol Stark.
