THE Parkhead Powersports Club, based at Hirst Welfare Centre in Ashington, played host to a junior international friendly competition with guest lifters from Northern Ireland, the Netherlands and all parts of the home nations taking part.

The lifters were all billeted at Sandy Bay holiday park for the event, which was made possible through support from Ashington Town Council, with Coun Peter Woods at the forefront, Bernicia Homes, the Key Fund, and the Vantage Fund.

Among the lifters were three locals bound for the Junior World Powerlifting Championships in Poland.

Anyone interested in taking up powerlifting should contact Fred Mackenzie on (01670) 857037 or go to Hirst Welfare on either a Monday, Tuesday or Thursday evening.
