DOZENS of golfers teed off for the first Great North Golf Tour.

And already leading the way for the Order of Merit is Paul Kingsland, who took the honours at Macdonald Linden Hall, walking away with a signed and framed Ian Poulter golf top.

A field of 65 golfers took part

Golf Manager at Linden Hall, Sam Oliver said: “As one of the key golf courses in the north east, it was important for us to be involved as something as big as the great north golf tour.

“It’s an exciting new venture for amateur golfers in the North, and for us to be the first venue was huge for us. It’s always a bit of a thrill to appear on Sky TV.”

Paul Kingsland said: “I could of played a bit better. I lost a few shots around the greens.

“It was a really good day and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

“I have already purchased tickets future dates at Dunstanburgh Castle Golf Club, Slaley Hall and the final at Close House.”

The event was organised by Golf Locker TV bosses Jamie O’Neill and Jacob Moller-Andersen.

There are seven events left on the Tour – Styrrup Hall, Friday, April 29; Keighley Golf Club, Friday, May 27; De Vere Oulton Hall, Friday, June 24; Dunstanburgh Castle Golf Club, Friday, July 29; De Vere Slaley Hall, Friday, August 26; Forest Park Golf Club, Friday, September 30; Close House, Friday, October 29.
