THE penultimate race in Blyth Running Club’s Winter Series saw another fine night and turnout, with 53 runners taking part in the sixth race of the season.

The conditions were conducive for good running as there were 29 season’s best times recorded with only a minute separating the runners finishing in sixth and 43rd places.

First back was Emma Freeman, running a minute quicker than her previous best, followed by guest runner Chris Nolan.

As a result of Chris’ performance, second and third places were awarded to those finishing third and fourth on the night – junior members Charlie Hedley and Joseph Woods respectively.

Both Hedley and Woods knocked approximately 40 seconds off their previous bests, remarkable in Hedley’s case as she had knocked a minute off in the previous race.

Robbie Barkley continued his trend of being fastest on the night with a time of 13.54, and Heather Christopher was again fastest lady in 16.07 – a new female vets record.
