There was a below average turnout for the sixth race in the Blyth Running Club winter series as 47 runners took part.

The penultimate race also saw a return to wintery weather, although the gusty damp conditions did nothing to slow down Claire Stewart, who won by nearly a minute from Lauren Barrett.

Phillipa Edwards was a further nine seconds adrift in third.

All three recorded season best times, Claire by more than 90 seconds, Lauren by just over 30 seconds and Phillipa just under 30 seconds.

With one race to go Phillipa holds a commanding lead in the overall individual competition with 40 points, Lauren Barrett is second on 79 and Ralph Dickinson third on 81.

The final race in the series is on Wednesday, April 16.

For the juniors, the February Athlete of The Month Award went to Alice Dungworth for the commitment to training and the attitude she has shown while suffering with her exercise induced asthma.

On Sunday (April 6) Blyth Running Club will be holding the ‘Spirit Of The Staithes’ 10km run sponsored by Transped.

The race will start at Blyth Quayside at 10am. All finishers will receive a t-shirt.
