Brian Lee came away from the recent British Masters Powerlifting competition with a first place finish.

The local lifter, who trains at the Hirst Welfare Centre in Ashington, was competing in the category two Masters competition.

Lee successfully lifted a massive 260kg squat, 210kg bench press and 280kg deadlift.

The success has lead to him being invited to compete at the upcoming European Masters in July.

Lee is one of a team of powerlifters and weightlifters that train and compete at the Hirst Welfare Centre and his success is largely down to all of the hard work and training that he and his fellow lifters put in on a daily and weekly basis.

The centre regularly hosts lifting competitions and always welcomes spectators and new starters to the sport.
