A GB powerlifting competition was held at the Hirst Welfare Centre in Ashington.

Thirty athletes from Tayside, Humberside, and the east midlands took part, with five athletes in wheelchairs, three from Merseyside and two from Sunderland, demonstrating their benchpressing skills on a purpose built Paralympic bench recently acquired by the host club, Parkhead and Wansbeck Powerlifting Club.

The proceedings were brought to a close, with a medal ceremony and speech from Wansbeck MP Ian Lavery.
