BLYTH Running Club recently held the third race in their Summer Cup, a series of seven 2.5-mile races following a route using the promenade and the beach path.
A total of 49 runners started and finished the course, with more than 20 setting their best times so far despite hot and humid conditions.
First back and improving by 90 seconds on his previous race was club secretary Ralph Dickinson, passing Angela Johnson in the last few metres to record a one second victory.
Johnson had been in the lead for the closing 800 meters but a determined sprint by Dickinson over the last 50 saw him just edge it on the winning line.
In third place, 11 seconds further back, was Jane Cassells, running more than a minute faster than last time out.
Fastest male was Jake Jansen in 13:36, which is also the fastest time recorded this year so far, and fastest female was Leanne Herron with 15:21, just nine seconds outside her own female course record of 15:12 set last year.
Thanks went to the organisers, marshals, timekeepers and helpers.
The next race is on Wednesday, August 22, starting at 7.15pm.
Any runners are advised to get there early for any number collecting and race instructions.
Blyth Running Club welcome any new runners of any age/ability. Anyone who wants to join Blyth should turn up at Blyth Sports Centres on either Monday or Wednesday at 6.45pm.
