FOUR teams in the Blyth and Bedlington School Sport Partnership played a Year 7 hockey tournament at Longhirst Hall, home of Morpeth Hockey Club.

Throughout the course of the afternoon, all teams played each other in seven-a-side mixed boys and girls matches, where they competed on half sized pitches with modified rules.

Organisers said it was pleasing to see the players improve their skills as the afternoon progressed, and to see how much they enjoyed playing what was for some of them, a new sport to compete in.

The winners were Bede Academy.

Congratulations also went to Guide Post and Meadowdale Middle Schools, and a second team from Bede who took part in the competition

The tournament finished with the presentation of certificates and trophy in the clubhouse, where the children could see the facilities that the hockey club has to offer.

The presentations were made by Julie Fenwick, hockey development officer for Northumberland, as well as being a member of Morpeth Hockey Club.

As well as umpiring and presenting certificates, Julie also spoke to the players about opportunities available for joining a hockey club.
