Seghill Rugby Club played host to round two of the Alnwick Rum Northumberland Club 7’s Series at the weekend.
The weather was perfect for 7’s rugby and supporters of all ages turned out in force to support the local teams from Seghill, Blyth, Morpeth, Ponteland, Consett, North Shields, Novocastrians and Percy Park.
Some excellent rugby was played throughout the day, with a lot of friendly banter, and with tries being run in by all the teams taking part.
The team of the day were Morpeth, who looked superb throughout. They took the cup final, and also won the player of the tournament award with James Philips.
North Shields won the late final, and also scored the try of the day, from Ben Dalton.
Hosts Seghill just edged the bowl final, with a win over their local rivals Blyth, who fielded a very young an inexperienced side, who were playing in their first 7’s tournament. Both teams performing very well on the day.
The next round with be held at Border Park on June 22, then Ponteland on July 6, Consett on July 20, and then final round at Druids Park on August 3.
