The BVPA Superleague, sponsored by Union Private Hire & Goschen Street Garage, has completed its first month of the 2013-14.

Last season’s champions Sports Club C beat Irish B 10-2 in a scrappy match with an eight-ball clearance from the Sports Club captain Alan Parker the highlight. The result keeps them in second place but they have closed the gap to leaders Bedlington Station to two points.

Comrades A have brought their poor start to the season to a dramatic halt with two victories on the spin. This week they beat Brockwell Seam 8-4 and moved up to sixth place. The turnaround in fortunes has seen them move up nine places in two weeks.

League leaders Bedlington Station beat Cramlington Village 8-4 to maintain top position and continue with their 100 per cent start to the season.

Home advantage did not help Sports Club A, who lost 8-4 to the Seahorse A. Sports Club A did make a spirited comeback from 4-1 down but it was not enough against quality opposition. Star man was Kevin Barker with 100 per cent from three games while John Welsh chipped in with a brace of singles wins. Sports Club’s Dean Dobson helped himself to two singles wins as well.

Newsham Side Club beat Sun Inn A 9-3 and claim their first victory of the season.

Annitsford Irish A beat Sun Inn B 12-0 to move into fourth with a emphatic team performance. Irish have strengthened this season and will be serious title contenders.

The final game of the night was also the tightest as Sports Club B maintained their impressive 100 per cent start to the season with a nail biting 7-5 win at Seahorse B. Special mention went to new BVPA members Steven Sweeney and Mark Lillico who travel from Amble each week to play for Seahorse.
