Students celebrate their latest judo grading

A group of students are celebrating after passing their latest grading exams.

A total of 30 students from Battlehill and Seghill judo clubs attended a course at Churchill Community College run by Billy Snowden and Kevin Corden.

Students were also examined for promotion by Malcolm Young, Steve Smith and Simon McKenzie.

Junior promotions were:

Kano 1 Shaylin Burn, Rhys Hardaker; Kano 2 Jack Dugdale, Terry Harvey, Dylan Kemeling, Matthew Doris, Ben Smith, Megan Coupland, Owen Hardaker; Kano 4 Finn O’Brian, Joe Flaherty; Kano 6 Isaac Thompson; Kano 7 Daniel Dizyee; 1st Mon Murray Cairns; 2nd Mon Kieran Hardaker, Kieran Jackson; 3rd Mon Luke Devall-McMurray, Yussef Gadema, Jasmin Gadema; 4th Mon Chloe Harris; 6th Mon Kyle Flannerly, Sean Young, Saffron Gadema; 11th Mon Chris Sayers.

The senior promotions were: 5th Kyu Carrie Patterson, Billy Corulla, Cheryl Harris.

Will Heavens and Paul Coupland also completed their first stage of BJA 1st Kyu (Brown Belts).

Battlehill and Seghill judo clubs train on Monday, Wednesday and Sunday in the Wallsend and Cramlington areas, led by Malcolm Young 4th Dan.

The club is currently offering six weeks of free Judo for 11 to 13-year-olds including a free Judo Suit and 12 months British Judo Association (BJA) Insurance.
