The second week of Blyth Valley Pool Association Superleague action saw only three teams emerging with 100 per cent records intact.
New leaders Bedlington Station defeated Blyth Sports Club A 9-3 in a much tighter game than the result suggests. Star man for Station was Jason Watson with a hat-trick of wins.
Only one point behind are Sports Club B, who upset the apple cart at the Annitsford Irish B and came away with an impressive 8-4 victory. Star man was Sports Club’s Will Cowling with three wins from three for the second week running. This week’s wins also included a great clearance in one of the singles rubbers.
A further point behind are Sports Club C. They were pushed all the way by a dogged Newsham Side Club, who have raised their level of play this season. Sports Club came out worthy winners, though, 7-5, and star man was Side Club’s Phil Chadwick with another hat-trick of wins.
Last year’s runners-up Percy Arms are a further point behind after a solid 9-3 victory over Cramlington Village Club.
Seahorse A came back from last week’s derby draw to win comprehensively at Sun Inn B. Despite the best efforts of Sun Inn’s Nathan Murther with a brace of wins, it was not enough to stop Seahorse taking the game 10-2 and are now tied in third place with Sports C.
Seahorse B scored a hard fought 8-4 victory over the Comrades A. Mark Lilico and Raymond Erridge were the star men for Seahorse with three wins apiece.
In the final game of the week, Sun inn A showed how much a season in the BVPA has helped them with a surprise 7-5 victory over a game Brockwell Seam. Man of the match was Sun Inn’s George Armstrong with three wins including an audacious cheeky swerve shot to pot the black.
