Newbiggin Boxing Club’s Jimmy Tyers is hoping to make it third time lucky next week after storming to a clear points semi-final win at Liverpool on Sunday.

He was up against former champion Callum O’Brien, from the Knowsley Vale Boxing Club.

Tyers started fast and kept up the pace for all three rounds, taking him to a unanimous decision.

He travels to Manchester next Sunday for the national finals.

Also in action last week for the club was Mason McGuigan, who won a clear points victory, while Jake Longstaff lost a close split decision.

Elsewhere, Lewis Scott looks to continue his unbeaten start as a professional boxer at the Rainton Meadows Arena on Friday, March 7.

He takes on Scottish prospect Rhys Pagan, who has only lost once on points to the unbeaten Craig Dixon of Newcastle.

Under the watchful eye of new manager Mark Clauzel, preparation is going well as Scott looks to maintain his 100 per cent knockout record.

Tickets are available from Newbiggin Boxing Club, the Shakespeare at Guide Post or by calling 07764 159361. Price is £35 and a bus is available for a small charge.
