Cramlington Rockets new Under 10s team enjoyed a successful launch with their first match against Carlisle Gladiators.

With the team formed in the summer of 2014, the Northumberland-based club saw its youngest members play their first ever game of rugby league at a chilly Cramlington Learning Village.

Smiles and tries were the order of the day despite a cold wind rattling the teeth of the spectators.

After the game, both sides enjoyed the hospitality of Cramlington Social Club and a special Rockets cake that team manager Sarah Stephenson had baked for the occasion.

“We were very proud of the players today” said coach Paul Dunham. “It was pretty cold but that didn’t stop any of the players from getting stuck in. We also really appreciate Carlisle making the trip despite the snow and making it a successful morning.”

The Cramlington Rockets U10s have seen their numbers swell in recent months thanks to the work of the Rockets Community Foundation, led by Steven Beaty.

“It is an exciting day for us, as we have seen a lot of faces from the local schools come down and give rugby league a try in recent weeks,” said Beaty.

Cramlington Rockets have teams for players aged 8 to adults. To find out more contact Steve Beaty on 07984 630083 or email cramlingtonrockets@gmail.com
