ASHINGTON Boxing Club had two boxers in the ring at last week’s Blyth Empire School of Boxing event in Ashington Comrades Social Club.
Up first was junior Josh Johnstone, whose opponent was Lambton Street’s Ben Grassham.
Johnstone commanded from the start, mixing his combinations and boxing clever.
The second round saw him use his jab well and in the third he increased the pace to win convincingly.
Up second was senior Brad Watson, whose opponent was Houghton and District ABC boxer Stephen Patchett.
His opponent had an unorthodox style and it was the second round before Watson started working him with some good straight shots to the body.
In the last round Watson stepped up the pace after working his opponent out and finished well to come away with the victory.
Coach Alan Buller said both boxers are a credit to the club.
