Young anglers defy the wet weather to land 15 trout in Coquet

HIRST Park Trout Ticklers of Ashington enjoyed a river taster at Thorney Haugh on the River Coquet near Longframlington courtesy of the Lishman family, writes Harley Dixey.

Although there was constant fine rain, fishing was good and about 15 trout were brought to the net – most caught in fast flowing water, which proved a challenge for many of the ticklers who were fishing a river for the first time.

The biggest fish, a brown trout estimated at 1lb, was caught by Jamie Taylor.

The ticklers’ next outing is on Saturday to Fontburn Reservoir, near Rothbury, where they will be joined by Fishing For Everyone Ladies’ Fishing Club.
