MORE than 300 athletes from the Blyth and Bedlington School Sport Partnership had a fantastic experience as they competed in an athletics event at Gateshead International Stadium.

The stadium has been revamped, and following an opening ceremony with all athletes parading around the track, the all day event got underway.

As well as partnership staff, the event was run on the day by staff from Blyth Valley Arts and Leisure, ably assisted by leaders from St Benet Biscop, St Wilfrid’s, Guide Post and Bedlington Junior High, as well as members of Blyth Running Club and Morpeth Harriers.

The running, jumping and throwing events took place, with local hero Brendan Foster even making an appearance.

All competitors from Years 5 and 6, were given points for their events.

The winners for Year 5 were Croftway Primary, with Guide Post coming out on top in Year 6.

Both schools were winners for the second year in a row.

Pupils from Newsham Primary, Morpeth Road Primary, Bede South, Malvins Close, Bedlington Junior High and Horton Grange were also praised.
